Call of the desert

The desert is something very very different than the ordinary land. It is not soothing like a green forest, not towering like mighty mountains. It do not moist the eyes like refreshing river. Still it is something far more profound. A drive or walk in the desert empties the mind like sand slipping from your fingers. Yet you are aware of the danger that lurks into the sand. You walk cautiously and free at the same time. The wind that whooshing through the thorny trees, tumbling grass balls takes mind along with them.

Desert does not asks you to love. But the best love stories and songs came from the desert only. It might be love is so dear just like water into this unforgiven land. It might be the stars, wind, open sky and sand opens the hearts of men and women even after hardship and tragedies ? Marwari, Sufis, Mangniyars , Langhas, Kutchi,Sindhi, Punjabi, Balochi, Persian, Turkic, Arabic and Mongol all those voices mingled into each other. They used to wander along with the wind from one part of the desert to the another extended from thar to Fargana , Sahara to Euphrates just like the caravans on the silk route. All of them joined together under the eternal blue sky, hardy grasslands and the unending desert.

This is not an exotified version but contemplation of a month long travel into the deserts of Rajasthan and the Rann of Kutch. The resilience, hardy nature, sharp eyes, uplifting music, delicious food changed my perspective. An exploration of the one corner of desert taught me so much that I feel like to listen to it's call again and again. New photo series coming soon bit by bit....
